Rehab R. Adil
A watercolour of the London skyline stretched along the river.

The story

When Zara leaves her life in Dubai to study in London, she imagines independence and possibility. Instead, she finds herself in a foreign city, an unfamiliar household, and an emotional distance she isn't prepared for.

In a place that never truly feels like home, she learns to navigate loneliness in silence, carrying burdens without witnesses.

When Silence Becomes Strength is a novel of displacement, faith, and endurance. It traces a life shaped not by dramatic turning points, but by what unfolds slowly and privately, asking whether silence becomes a source of strength, or the quiet space where something else begins to form.

An extract

“That's the thing about surviving quietly. You become so good at pretending that eventually even you start to believe you're okay.”
